Caleb Asselin pursued his passion for structural and northern climate engineering through the University of Alaska Anchorage. As a CIRI descendant, Caleb recognized the critical need for infrastructure engineered specifically to withstand Alaska's extreme thermal, permafrost, and seismic conditions.
With the support of multi-year TCF Higher Education Scholarships and Named Endowment funding, Caleb maintained high academic standing while completing rigorous capstone projects in cold-weather concrete design and soil stabilization.
"The financial support allowed me to treat engineering as my full-time job," Caleb shares. "Instead of worrying about tuition or book bills, I could focus entirely on understanding differential equations and structural dynamics. TCF made graduation without debt a reality."
Today, Caleb works as an infrastructure project engineer in Anchorage, contributing directly to regional municipal projects and Alaska Native housing developments across the state.
His advice for aspiring Alaska Native engineers: "Don't be intimidated by the math or the workload. Reach out to your mentors, utilize TCF resources, and remember that our ancestors were some of the greatest natural engineers in history."
