The Alaska Afterschool Conference is the largest gathering of out-of-school time professionals and volunteers in the state. This year’s conference engaged 195 individuals, including 52 participants from 7 communities served by The CIRI Foundation. Conference attendees were engaged in two days of hands-on, minds-on learning on wide variety of topics. Workshops including Culturally Responsive Social-Emotional Learning, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), Using Trauma-Sensitive Practices with Children, and Striking Out Summer Learning Loss. The Alaska Afterschool Conference strengthens adult afterschool workers ability to effectively engaged students in culturally responsive, hands-on learning during out-of-school times.

The Alaska Afterschool Conferences supports student’s academic achievement by training afterschool workers on how to engage students in hands-on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) activities during out-of-school times.

Achieving Equity & Rigor: Alaska Cultural Standards workshop at the Alaska Afterschool Conference. When students are engaged in culturally responsive programming they are able to achieve academic and social-emotional outcomes.

The WAKE UP! – Let’s Move It workshop at the Alaska Afterschool Conference teaches afterschool workers how to engage students in kinesthetic learning that supports positive student academic and health outcomes.
